A memorial service for Eileen E. Gibbs, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 30, at Westmont Christian Church in Lubbock.
Mrs. Gibbs died Saturday, December 27, 2014, in Lubbock. She was born to James Thomas Eskew and Edith Coffin Eskew on August 1, 1921, in Rushville, Indiana, and was raised in Indianapolis. Eileen was a 1947 graduate of Indiana University School of Nursing, having served as president of her class. Upon graduation, she moved to Galveston to take post graduate courses in pediatrics at The University of Texas Medical Branch, where she met her future husband, Dr. Reagan H. Gibbs. Reagan and Eileen lived in Galveston until 1974, when they moved to Lubbock.
Eileen was a dedicated volunteer with a variety of interests. She was a member of the Junior League, Texas Medical Auxiliary, and a longtime volunteer at the Texas Tech University Medical Center, where she served as president of the Lubbock General Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Master Gardener, a member of the South Plains Plant Society and the Municipal Garden and Arts Center Advisory Board. Eileen also served on the board of the Lubbock Council of Garden Clubs and was a Lady Raiders basketball fan and season ticket holder for many years. She was elder emeritus at Westmont Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers. She is survived by her son Reagan H. Gibbs, Jr. (Margaret) of League City; two daughters, Judith Gibbs of Baltimore, Maryland, and Janice Gibbs of Temple; and a grandson Reagan H. Gibbs III (Krystle) of Houston.
