Elna "Fern" Tipton Stanton

Elna Fern Arnold Tipton Stanton was born to A.O & Vada Arnold on January 30, 1927, in Roby, Texas. She passed from her earthly life to heaven at Garrison House in Lubbock, Texas on May 4, 2023. Fern married M. E. Tipton on April 6, 1946. They were married 47 years before his passing on May 22, 1993. She remarried M. B Stanton in February 1998 until his passing on June 2, 2000.

Fern worked as a waitress and in the Idalou School Cafeteria during their early years of marriage. Later she worked at Knadles Department store in Roswell, NM, and JC Penney Department Store in Lubbock. She took a job with Security Bank, now Vista Bank in Idalou until her retirement in 2002.

Fern loved to read and do search-a-word puzzles. She was a long-time member of the Church of Christ in Roswell, NM and in Idalou.

Fern is survived by 1 daughter, Kathy Roach (Nolan) of Idalou; Son-in-Law, Prentice Powers (Darlene) of Clovis, New Mexico; sister, Joyce Bricker (John) of Littleton, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Denna Powers, Rusty Powers (Terry), Tonya Polomsky (Doug), Stacy Morris (James), Rick Patterson (Marie), Michael Powers, Tony Sasser (Eileen), Becky Treadway (Lee), Jennifer Hollingsworth (Chris), Kelli Johnson (Ben); 18 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband M. E. Tipton; husband M. B. Stanton;

2 daughters, Darlene Powers, and Pam Willis; her parents A.O & Vada Strebeck; granddaughter, Laurie Clark; grandson, Wayne Powers; 4 brothers, Curtis, Earnest, Bennie, and Don Arnold; and 2 sisters Linnie Strebeck and Virgie Hukill.

Viewing and visitation will be at Combest Funeral Home 2210 Broadway Lubbock, Texas from 5 - 7 P.M on Monday, May 8, 2023. The funeral will be held at Idalou Church of Christ with Jeff Cary officiating on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at the Idalou Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Billy Gilbert, Allen Morris, John Gilbert, Rusty Powers, Zach Patterson, Moises Hernandez, Jonah Taylor and Gage Burkhart. Honorary pallbearers: Rick Patterson, Mike Powers, and Tony Sasser.
