Enrique Marquez

April 25, 1957 — January 20, 2022

Enrique Marquez, 64, of Abernathy, left this world to be with Christ on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Enrique was born on April 25, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas to the late Carlos Marquez and Aurelia (Villanueva) Marquez.

Enrique attended Abernathy High School, graduating with the senior class of 1976, after which he attended Texas Tech University. A native of Abernathy, he has worked for the City of Abernathy as the Assistant Supervisor of the Water Department from 1980 to 2017. Enrique also served faithfully as a volunteer fireman for the Abernathy Fire Department for 35 years, before retiring in 2017.

He met Diana Sanchez, the love of his life, and they were married on March 7, 1998, in Abernathy.

Enrique loved baseball, especially the Texas Rangers, as well as football, of which his favorite was the Houston Texans. He served as a children's pastor at the New Life Baptist Church in Wolfforth in the past. Enrique was currently a member of Thrive Family Church in Lubbock.

Those left to mourn and to cherish Enrique's memory include his wife, Diana of Abernathy; five sons, Enrique Marquez, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Royal-Marquez of Abernathy, Christopher Marquez of Abernathy, Abel Casares of New York State, Jaden Zavala Marquez of Abernathy and Kyler Zavala Marquez of Abernathy; four daughters, Adelina Garcia of Abernathy, Bonnie Marquez and her husband Freddie Salinas of Abernathy, Monica Pesina of Lubbock and Amelia Casares of Lubbock; two brothers, Feliciano Marquez of Lubbock and Anthony Gonzales of Lubbock; six grandchildren, Courtney C. Parkey and her husband Cory, Anayah Barrientez, Lilianna Salinas, Andrew Salinas, Zander Salinas and Kambrie Zavala, and three great-grandchildren, Zephyr Parkey, Abigail Parkey and Hezekiah Barrientez. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Felix Casares; one sister, Stephanie Flores, and three grandchildren, Abigale Marquez, Enrique Marquez III and Ivy Q. Marquez.

Visitation for Enrique will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Thrive Family Church in Lubbock, 4315 Ironton. Pastor Lupe Perez will be the officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers will be Michael Looney, Julian Torrez, Wesley Crumpler, Jordan Prater, Kevin Moore, Angel Garcia, Cole Vandygriff and Jaden Zavala Marquez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Enrique's memory be directed to the Abernathy Volunteer Fire Department, 407 9th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311.
