Ernesto V. Mendez, 74, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 6, 2022. Ernesto was born on November 7, 1947.
Ernesto met and married the love of his life, Betty Urrutia, and they were married on April 1, 1988, in Lubbock, where they have made their home.
He worked as a welder and in steel construction for many years, before retiring in 2008. He loved to walk, enjoyed the outdoors and spending quality time with his grandchildren, as he was very family oriented. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and was glued to the television when they played. Ernesto was a member of the men's group, Cursillista, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he was a member.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty; two sons, Josh and Jason Mendez of Lubbock; two daughters, Ernestine Mendez and Tammy Mendez of Lubbock; two brothers, Henry Mendez and Leo Mendez of Lubbock; two sisters, Emma Luna of Lubbock and Elida Sandoval of Michigan; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ismael Mendez in December of 1989; three brothers, Robert Mendez, Paul Mendez and Jessie Mendez; two sisters, Cruz Martinez and Edelmira Cordero.
A time of visitation and reflection for Ernesto will be held from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, June 13, 2022, with recitation of the rosary at 6 PM, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX. Mass will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1120 52nd Street, Lubbock, TX. Deacon Joe Martinez will be the Celebrant. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Silvas, Jared Burton, James Martinez, Eric Urrutia, J. R. Mendez, Jr., and Jerry Mendez.
