Eva Ellen Wilburn went to be with Jesus Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born June 12, 1925 in San Bernardino, California to Della and Logan Baker. Eva grew up near Jennings, Oklahoma and attended school in Jennings. Carl and Eva married on December 6, 1942 in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Eva was a housewife and she and Carl moved periodically as Carl pursued employment in the oilfields of Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. She also kept children ( from birth to school age) in her home. After Carl's retirement, they enjoyed trips throughout the United States with Eva on the back of Carl's Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. She was an excellent seamstress making her children's clothes, from Jim's pearl button cowboy shirts to Kay's wedding dress. She enjoyed working with her hands, from crocheting to 3,000 piece puzzles and loved her flower and vegetable gardens.
She was a member of the Assembly of God church in Eunice, New Mexico and served as church secretary for many years. After 52 years in Eunice, NM, she and Carl moved to Lubbock, Tx. in 2010.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jim and wife Sherry of Lubbock, Tx., daughter, Kay Akin and husband Bob of Mineral Wells, Texas, brother Henry Baker and wife Kathryn of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. There are four grandchildren, Lex Ann Hood, Clay Wilburn, Cord Wilburn and Kari Reynolds, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, one brother John Baker and numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with services beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.
