Felipa River Cantu

Felipa Rivera Cantu of Lubbock passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the age of 91.  She was born May 26, 1923 in Tucumcari, New Mexico.  Felipa worked as a nurse for 40 years before owning her own retail business for another 40 years.  While living in Grand Prairie, she worked at the United Charities Food Pantry.  Upon moving to Lubbock, Felipa was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Gloria Carrillo and husband Francisco, Maria Lara, and Christine Gonzalez, all of Grand Prairie, and Sandra Chadis and husband Juan of Lubbock; brother, Joe Rivera of Amarillo; sister, Maria Leos of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Felipa was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Feliciana Rivera; husband, Domingo Cantu in 1965; four brothers, Antonio, Benny, Frank, and Johnny Rivera; and two sisters, Nancy Torres and Rufina Duran.

Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
