Glen Holt

October 21, 1937 — September 10, 2022

Lubbock

William Glen Holt was born in Lubbock, Texas to the late Ruth and Fay Holt on October 21, 1937 and died on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in Lubbock, Texas.

Glen followed in his parents’ footsteps, devoted to the grocery business with stores in Lubbock, Rotan, Snyder, Brownfield, Tahoka, as well as stores in New Mexico.  He served as President of Texas Retail Grocers Association and as Board Member of Affiliated Foods Board of Directors for 20+ years, with many of those years as Vice Chair.

In addition, his love of flying was illustrated by his ownership of numerous planes even though some family members did not share his enthusiasm for that pastime.

After retirement, Glen took up the game of golf with the same kind of commitment and enthusiasm he demonstrated in his grocery business career.  He was an exceptional golfer, especially for someone who did not take up the game until his sixties, exhibiting his golf skills by shooting his age several times.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth & Fay Holt, and younger brother, Jerry Holt.

Glen is survived by his wife, Linda, as well as four children:  Ken Holt, Kevin Holt, Kristi Bryan (Scott), Leticia Martinez (Omar) and eight grandchildren:  Tanner (Lindsey) & Cutter Holt; Mason & Hailey Bryan; Elijah, Aleena, Michael & Noah Martinez.  In addition, he is survived by a younger brother, Ronnie Holt (Sue), a younger sister, Robbie Ausley (Tom), sister-in-law, Jackie Holt, and numerous nieces and nephews who have fond memories of their “Uncle Glen.”

The celebration of Glen’s life will begin with visitation on Wednesday evening, September 14th, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, in Lubbock.  Funeral services will be Thursday, September 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the Venue on Broadway.  Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 West 19th Street, in Lubbock.  Arrangements are under the personal care of Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community United Methodist Church, 220 Junction Rd., Ruidoso, NM 88345, or a charity of your choice.
