Glenn L. Kelley

Glenn Kelley passed away at home on February 17, 2014 at the age of 98, due to complications from a recent fall.  He was born September 10, 1915 to William Oliver Kelley and Beulah Milburn Kelley in the community of Prospect, Clay County, Texas.  At age three, his family moved to a half dug-out on their homestead near Cameo, NM between Clovis and Portales.  Following high school in Clovis, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, where he attained the highest grades ever received in the radio division.  Upon returning to Clovis, he was the radio transmitter operator for KICA radio.  He married Elizabeth Morgan on October 1, 1934 in Tucumcari, NM.  They later moved to Amarillo to begin his 43 year career with General Electric.  GE moved them to Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, and then in 1952, to Lubbock where he retired in 1978.  The last twenty-five years with GE were spent traveling the western half of Texas and most of New Mexico.

He was a lifetime member of the church of Christ and attended Pioneer Park and Sunset churches of Christ.

He loved to travel and after the passing of his wife in 1991, he made many trips around the U.S. sometimes accompanied by his son or by one or both of his daughters.  He was active in the lives of his grandchildren & great-grandchildren by going for ice cream, picking them up from school, and taking them on trips.  He enjoyed researching family history and was a former member of the South Plains Genealogical Society.  His lifetime interest in radio and electronics led him to spend many hours as a ham radio operator, listening to international short wave radio and to emergency calls on his scanner, reading electronic/scientific magazines, and surfing the net on his computer.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Elizabeth of 57 years, his brothers; Clifford and David Otis Kelley, his son Philip Glenn Kelley, and his daughter Linda Sue McNiel. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Nancy Hargesheimer and husband Ken, and his son-in-law Leslie McNiel; his grandchildren, Kena Vogel and husband Howard, Greg Hargesheimer, Sean McNiel and wife Crystal, LeighAnn Heil and husband Robert; his great-grandchildren, Courtney Roper and husband Richard, Cameron Fletcher and wife Lindsay, Hayden Hargesheimer, Ryan Heil, Morgan Vogel, and Elizabeth and Jonathan McNiel; and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed eating at Furr's Cafeteria on the south loop for lunch everyday since his retirement. The family would like to thank the many employees there for the special kindness shone to him for over thirty-five years.  The family also thanks Accolade Home Health/Hospice for all their loving care since his fall.  

Visitation will begin on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends 5:00-6:30 p.m.  Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
