A life-long Texan, Gregory Dustin Harral was born on October 26, 1966 in El Paso to Gerald and Ilene Harral. He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa and received his bachelor's degree from McMurry University in Abilene. He passed away in Lubbock on December 22, 2021. These are what the facts do not capture: his hilarious, wheezing laugh that no one could resist, like the time an entire movie theatre had the funniest night of their lives laughing alongside Greg through every single scene of Napoleon Dynamite. He loved Star Wars and the Dallas Cowboys, though the latter typically did not measure up to his devotion. His life-affirming poetry, paintings, and pottery (like his beautiful nativity sets) encouraged his friends and family and reflected his creative view of the world. He wrote countless letters in an almost incomprehensible scrawl, signed by Darth Gregorious, that crossed the United States over and over to a multitude. Greg was patient, enduring, and courageous in his daily life wrestling with the suffering, trials, and gifts of cerebral palsy.
We love him. And he loved his family, friends, and Jesus with abiding faithfulness. He is survived by his mother, Ilene Harral Hodgin, and her husband, Charles Hodgin, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Geof and Keely Harral, and his sister and brother-in-law, John and Gayla Irwin, as well as one nephew, four nieces, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins (he was their favorite). He has been reunited with his father, Gerald Harral, in the kingdom of Heaven.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Lubbock or an organization that supports people living with cerebral palsy.
