Hector Garcia Serna, age 94, went to his Father in Heaven's arms on Monday, March 21, 2022. He was born on September 3, 1927, in Reynosa Mexico to Patricio and Angelita (Maria De Los Angeles) Serna. He married his sweetheart, Emilia De La Garza on January 23, 1952, in Alamo, Texas. Hector & Emilia moved to the Lubbock area in 1954. Hector found work as a farmer. He was a hard and dedicated worker. He was instrumental in helping several farmers get the best cotton crops in the New Deal, Abernathy and Shallowater areas. He taught his children how to work hard and to appreciate a good education. After his "retirement" from the cotton fields, Hector went to work at Shallowater I.S.D. as a custodian and bus driver in 1983. After 17 years with the school district, he retired again, at the age of 73. He made many lifelong friends at the school district.
Hector loved growing a garden, mowing his grass, dancing, and hunting. He was the best at grilling a 7-bone steak and his calabaza dish made everyone's mouth water! We are still trying to master his grilling skills. Hector had a quick sense of humor and he loved making people laugh. His pride and joy were his grandkids. How he loved their visits and calls!
Hector is preceded in death by his wife Emilia De La Garza and second wife, Soila Coy; two grandchildren Angela Serna and Brandon Squire.
Hector is survived by his two children, Hector Jr. (Alice) of Shallowater and Janie (Dennis) Squire of Highland, Utah; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; one sister, Santos Guerra of McAllen, Texas; and a legacy of nieces and nephews.
