Herman Halford

Herman Gendel Halford was born September 9, 1924, to Jess H and Ruth (Crawford) Halford in Tahoka, Lynn County, Texas. He was the 10th of 12 children in his family. He passed away at the age of 100 on October 9, 2024, at White Sands Nursing Center in Hobbs, NM.

Herman attended school in New Home, Texas, and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He served in World War II on the USS Bairoko and was honorably discharged January 30, 1946.

Herman was an Auto Body Painter in Lubbock before entering the Navy and resumed that career after his years of service in California. When Herman retired, he moved to Lovington, NM and later moved to Hobbs.

With a sparkle in his eye, Herman was a kind and gentle man.

His parents preceded him in death as well as his siblings Ruby Campbell, Nan Fortenberry, Minnie Johnson, Angela Fay Halford, Elida Gass, Luther (Bud) Halford, W.B. (Dub) Halford, Jodie Halford, Odessa Johnson, Kesley Halford and Viola Catt.

Herman is survived by nieces and nephews Nita Harrison, Bonnie Johnoff, Johnny Gass, Eddie Jo Miller, Harold Halford, JoDel Trotter, Randy Halford, Wayne Johnson, Paula Nichols, Dennis Halford, Marla Catt and Janet Catt and many great-nieces and nephews.
