Irma Chapa Mendoza, 82, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was born February 10, 1940 in Mexico to Emiliano and Gabriela (Villareal) Chapa. Irma came to Lubbock at the age of 17 and worked in the fields for several years growing up. She married Edward Mendoza, Jr. in Lubbock. She was a loving mother, sister, wife and grandmother. Irma worked for National Linen Service for over 40 years. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and loved going to church. Irma enjoyed sewing and growing flowers. She was always taking care of everyone.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Edward Mendoza, Jr. ; sons, Benjamin Hernandez, Jr., George Hernandez, Mike Hernandez and Mario Hernandez; daughters, Miranda Hernandez and Rosa Singh; sisters, Graciela C. Garcia and Angelica Hinojosa; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gabriela Chapa; sisters, Lupita Saenz and Maria de Jesus Chapa, and grandchildren, Merrick Daniel and Nathaniel Daniel.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 1-8pm at the Venue on Broadway and from 9am until 8pm on Thursday, March 17, 2022 also at the Venue on Broadway. There will be a prayer service at 6:30pm Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the same location. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 10am at Freedom Baptist Church with interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
