J. R. “James Robert” Cromer, 102, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 5, 2024. Mr. Cromer was born on August 29, 1921, in Tom Bean, Grayson County, Texas, to the late James Homer Cromer and Harriet Magdalene (Roark) Cromer.
He attended and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He then attended Texas Tech University, where he studied for approximately 3 years.
He met Lera Jeanne Dixon, and they were united in marriage on October 16, 1987, in Oklahoma. Mrs. Cromer preceded him in death on June 20, 2013.
Mr. Cromer was a self-employed land surveyor for many years, before retiring in 1995. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged. He was a former member of Canyon United Methodist Church in Lubbock.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include two nephews: Randall E. Speer of Lubbock and Harold Leon Cromer of Boerne; three nieces: Janice Cornelius of Lubbock, Gail Stover of Pearland and Wendy L. Scarborough of Llano. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters: Layuna Belbusti, Thelma Howell and Frances Cavender; two brothers: Harold Cromer and Wendel Cromer.
No services are planned for Mr. Cromer. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
