James Ervin

Jim passed from this life June 30, 2022, in Lubbock, TX, at 87 years of age. He entered this life June 23, 1935, in Altus, OK, to Martin Lewis and Mable (Glover) Ervin. Jim grew up in Brownfield and graduated from Brownfield High School. He married Theresa Caffey December 14, 1979. Together they had 2 daughters, Kim and Penny.

Jim became a salesman and worked oil field sales for 40 years. Jim and Theresa attended Quaker Avenue Church of Christ. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with family, and reading.

Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jim never met a stranger and loved everyone with his whole heart. He was known for his love for his family, for his wit and
joyful spirit, but most of all, his love for Christ. There was not a day that went by that he did not check on his loved ones, recognize those less fortunate than him, but most of all, his discipline to thank Jesus for his sacrifice on the cross to wash away his sins. He prayed faithfully, living by example for each of us to witness. He leaves a legacy that exemplifies the Fruit of the Spirit, Love=family, Joy=hearts filled, Peace=with one another, Patience=calming spirit, Kindness=loving thy neighbor, Goodness=forgiveness, Faithfulness=always giving to others, Gentleness=humble, Self-Control=slow to anger. These characteristics touched many souls from many walks of life. He traveled many miles with his job as a salesman of 42 years and after retiring in 2018 he enjoyed his time in his shop, creating treasures for family and friends, while listening to gospel music. He will forever be remembered for all the pocketknives he gave to his “boys” every year at Christmas and all the special trinkets he had made for his "girls". No matter if it was family or friends, Jim went by many names, he was known as James, Jimmy, Jim, Jimbo, honey, daddy, Pawpaw, Uncle Jim, friend and the one that means the most today is "Faithful Servant” Because of after all, Pawpaw is not gone, he's home. All of us left behind know he is anxiously awaiting our arrival. We love you always.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Theresa; daughters, Kim Churchwell (Gary) and Penny Willis, both of Lubbock; grandsons, Cody Churchwell (Denissa), Blane Churchwell (Kayla), and Kylen Willis; granddaughter, Lexi Shortes (Nathan); great-grandchildren, Grace Churchwell, Justice Churchwell, Taber Churchwell, Hudson Churchwell, Hartly Churchwell, and Drew Shortes; and his faithful companion and doggie, Miss Dingus.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Lewis Ervin and Mable Inez (Clover) Ervin; Sisters, Inez Beesinger and Nelda Willis; and in-laws, Melvin and Gayle Caffey.

A celebration of life will be held for Jim 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ. Services have been entrusted to Combest Family Funeral Homes. The family would like to give a special thanks to Bridge Hospice and Crownpoint Health Suites.
