Derek Glidewell, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, left us on October 29, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on March 9, 1962, in Clovis, New Mexico, Derek’s journey through life was marked by kindness, laughter, and love that touched everyone who knew him.
A proud graduate of Clovis High School, Class of 1980, Derek dedicated his working years to construction, specializing in stucco alongside his cousin, Rick. Following his work in construction, Derek worked serving our local community with Pat Garrett Realtors for the past 16 years. His passion for his craft was evident, as was his work ethic, which reflected the values instilled in him by his loving family.
To those who had the privilege of knowing Derek, he was so much more than a skilled worker. He was a very kind and sweet man, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. Derek had a love for life that was infectious; he enjoyed singing, dancing, and most of all, spending cherished moments at the lake fishing with his friends and family. His loyal dog, Wilbur, was never far from his side, often accompanying Derek on adventures outdoors.
Derek’s pride and joy was his daughter, Ashley Spurgeon, whose presence in his life illuminated all his days. Derek was a devoted father, and Ashley was truly the light of his eyes. He also cherished his role as a grandfather to three grandchildren Braycin, Taiden and Memphis, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. His siblings, Dana Stokes and Deborah Campbell, remember him as a supportive brother, always being there with a warm smile and open heart.
As we gather to honor Derek’s memory, we invite friends and family to join us for a visitation on November 8, 2024, at the Oak Crest Suite at Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas. This time will allow us to celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to those around him.
Though Derek is now at peace, his legacy of kindness, generosity, and laughter will forever resonate in our hearts. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
