James Murray

James Milford Murray entered this life on November 19, 1927. He was the second of seven children born to Thomas Jefferson Murray and Maggie Naomi Huffaker Murray, in Lynn County, Texas.

He attended school in Grassland and graduated from Tahoka High School. He was an active member of Grassland Church of the Nazarene, serving on the church board, leading the singing, and teaching a Sunday School class. James married Nelda Lois Moore on January 20, 1948, in Grassland, Texas, and they had three children.

James spent most of his years as a  farmer in Lynn County, with a few years spent in the construction business. James was an avid reader and spent hours reading and studying the Bible. He kept a dictionary by his chair and was always looking up the meaning of words. He loved music, especially hymns and gospel songs. He kept a hymnal and a few other songbooks by his chair so he could look up the lyrics to songs that came to mind. He liked to read about the founding and history of our great nation, and the people who made that possible.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nelda Lois, his parents, a sister Imogene, a sister Mary Kathryn McDonald, and a sister Modena Conrad.

He is survived by his three children, Queda Crutchfield and husband Kenneth, Quinton Murray, and Carlene Mercer and husband Brad of Bethany, Oklahoma: four granddaughters, Kayla Walls and husband Steve, Shonda Crutchfield, Sherilyn Crutchfield, and Brynne Ross and husband Cody; five great-grandchildren Casey Walls, Kelbey Walls, Wyatt Ross, Jude Crutchfield, and Kasyn Ross; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Combest Family Funeral Home Chapel in Tahoka, Friday, February 10th, from 6 pm-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Grassland Church of the Nazarene at 1 pm Saturday, February 11th. Burial will follow afterward at Grassland Cemetery.
