James Phillip Parker, 86, of Hobbs, passed away September 30, 2014, at Covenant Health Center in Lubbock, TX.
He was born on December 9, 1927, to Calvin Richard and Eva Mary (Gardner) Parker at Wesley, AR. On December 24, 1952, at Wesley, he was married to Ruth Boatright, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
After moving to Hobbs in 1953, he was employed by New Mexico Electric Service Company for 27 years, then worked for Dixie Electric for 13 years until his retirement in 1996.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Elmer Ellis Parker; a sister, Mary Sue Carnes; and a niece, Diana Joyce (Parker) Dawson.
He is survived by his wife; six children, Phyllis Murphy, John Parker, and A.J. Parker, all of Hobbs, Elizabeth Schwarz of Graham, TX, Alana Hawkins of Odessa, TX, and Joe Parker of Poulsbo, WA; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Legion or VFW.
Services and burial will be on November 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery in Arkansas.
