James Williams

James Williams, 86, of Idalou and formerly of Tulia, passed away early Saturday morning, February 12, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. James was born on January 10, 1936, in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas to the late Sanford and Ethel (Townsend) Williams.

James attended and graduated from Bovina High School in 1953. He married the love of his life, Wanda McCormick, on June 5, 1954, in Clovis, New Mexico. Wanda preceded him in death on November 4, 2019. James and Wanda owned and operated the Williams Furniture Store for 30 years, in Tulia, from 1975 until their retirement in 2005. Following retirement, James and Wanda traveled the country for 12 years before settling in the Lubbock area in 2015.

Those left to cherish James memory include one son, Steve Williams of Pampa; one daughter, Rhonda Cummings and her husband Billy of Idalou; three sisters, Jo Keith of Breckenridge, Barbara Cunningham and her husband Robert of Goldsmith, and Linda Hoff and her husband Jerel of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren: Stephanie and husband Nathan, Ryan and wife Bobby Sue, Resa, Robin and husband Darren, Melissa and husband Bryan, Daniel, Chance and wife Melissa, Rance, Jeremy and Jennifer; and 17 grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda in 2019, son Michael in 2017, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

A time of visitation for James will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Combest Family Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 PM to 7 PM that evening. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel, with Bruce McBee officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in the Bovina Cemetery, in Bovina, Texas, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

Pallbearers will be Tommy McCormick, Ryan Monk, Rance Monk, Daniel Williams, Chance Williams and Steve Williams.
