Janet Duran of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the age of 70. She was born November 16, 1943 in Lovington, New Mexico, to Jordan and Witty Fay (Kerley) Love. She was employed by Plains Lab in 1964 at the age of 19. Janet continued employment when A & L Plains Lab bought Plains Lab in 1977. Janet was a licensed oilseed chemist, nematologist, and lab supervisor during her employment until her retirement on December 30, 2010. “Mom” to many, including co-workers and friends, she always put others before herself.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara Parrish of Savannah, Texas; son, Scott Duran and wife, Christy of Lubbock; brothers, Bobby, Deryl and Keyton Love; sisters, Kaye Smith and Mary Jones; grandchildren, Kate and Joe Gazzaway, Brooke and Andre Porter, TJ and Sara Parrish, Kristin Parrish, Michael and Ella Duran, Rachael and Justin Franks; and great-grandchildren, Kiersten Gazzaway, Madalyn Nevarez, Morgan Gazzaway, Christian Nevarez, Hayden Chadd, and Hendrix Parrish.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jim John Duran, Jr. and James John Duran; brother, Jimmy Love; and a sister, Sandra Crisp.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at Christ the King Cathedral.
The family suggests memorials be made to Christ the King School Foundation at 4011 54th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79413.
