Janet, aka Tahoka's MeMe, was born on June 29, 1937, in Baird, TX to Virgil and Lorene Blacklock. On January 24, 2022, her life's race was run, as a good and faithful servant, and she was called to her heavenly home.
Janet's life was punctuated with service to her family, community, and her church. Most notable was her founding and enduring support of the "Christmas for Kids," a program providing Christmas gifts for children in need. No less remarkable were her generosity, optimism and, dedication as she fostered four children, co-led the longest and largest Girl Scout troop in Lynn County, while cross stitching over 200 Christmas Stockings for friends and charity auctions.
In addition to Janet's many community accomplishments, she served as Lynn County Treasurer as well as filling other professional and church roles throughout her life.
She married her partner in life, Jim Bob Porterfield on November 6, 1955. Welcoming Janet to heaven are her husband, parents, sisters Fern and Barbara, and brothers Kenneth and Glen.
Janet leaves big shoes for her surviving son, Jimmy Don Porterfield of Tahoka; daughter, Amanda Brown, and her husband Byron of Arlington; granddaughters, Chelsea LeJan White and Crystal Shay Shoaf; step-granddaughters, Ashley Helms and Britany Brown; great -grandchildren, Cailyn Kelsey, Ellie, Emma, Everlee and John Ryan Shoaf, Mikayla and Tyson Helms; sister, Gloria Gee (Seattle, WA), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Two of Janet's favorite charities are Refuge Christian Fellowship in Lubbock or Lynn County Senior Citizens Center should you desire to leave a gift in her memory.
