Jesus G. Pena

Jesus G. Peña, of Lubbock, formerly of Petersburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2014 at the age of 86.   Jesus was born to Juan and Margarita (Gutierrez) Peña in Fentress, Texas on February 5, 1928.  He moved to Petersburg in the early 1950’s and was a dedicated farmer that took great pride in his work.  He farmed for Don Akin from 1952 to 1978; in 1978 he started farming for Doug Ellison and continued with him until retiring in 2004.  He married Consuela Rocha in 1949 in Fentress.  

This union of matrimony was blessed with his surviving children, Jessie Peña, Jr and wife Margie, Juan Peña and wife Anita, Arthur Peña and wife Gloria, all of Lubbock, Domingo Peña and wife Keong of San Marcos, Antonio Peña and wife Elida of Slaton, Ester Cedillo and Lucy Marmolejo and husband Frank, all of Idalou; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Other survivors include his brother, Raymond Peña; current wife, Maria G. Peña; stepchildren, Maria Ramona Garcia, Jovita Elia Cruz, Pablino Garcia, Manual Ysaguirre, and Andy Flores, all of Amarillo, Mary Ellen Garcia of Grand Rapid, MI, Patricia Garcia and husband Robert of San Antonio; 16 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Jesus was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Consuelo R. Peña; two sons, Manuel Peña and Macario Peña; grandson, Jon-Gregory Peña; great-grandson, Jonathon Peña; brother, Francisco; sisters, Margaret Infante, Maria Gonzales, Catarina Banda, and Rosa Banda; and stepson, Leonardo Garcia, Jr.

Rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Chapel with interment to follow at the Idalou Cemetery.
