Joan Adkins

Joan Adkins of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the age of 88.  She was born June 17, 1925 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Carl and Hattie Mae (Sheumaker) Owens.  At a young age, the family moved to Tahoka where she graduated and went on to attend Texas Tech University.  She married Glen Adkins in November of 1947 and they made their home in Lubbock.  She worked at Lubbock National Bank until 1978 and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church where she coordinated the nursery as well as helped Glen in his various ministries.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dee Ann Curry and husband Eddy of Abilene; son, Dr. Jay Carl Adkins and wife Dee Dee of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Lovelle Owens of Lubbock; grandchildren, Dr. Summer Ketron, Kamber Bailey and husband Kelvin, Dr. Camille Ketron, and Kade Curry and wife Jenni; and great-grandchildren, Colton, K’Dee, Evan, Kaci, Addie, and Asher.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen in September of 2013; brother, Clyde Owens; and sister, Pauline Tippit.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Combest Family Funeral Homes with the family receiving friends 4:00-6:00 p.m.  Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at Oakwood Baptist Church with interment to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
