Joe Alexander

Joe Scott Alexander of Lubbock peacefully stepped into the loving arms of our Father on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. He was born in Crane, Texas on December 3, 1941 to John Max Alexander Sr. and Mary Louise Scott Alexander.  He was in the US Air Force from 1962-1966 and was part of a survival unit and trained soldiers to parachute out of an airplane.  Joe moved to Lubbock where he met and married his best friend Deana Phelps, on July 7, 1967 after only knowing her 3 months.  He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Wayland Baptist University and worked as a Meat Cutter his whole life until retiring from United Supermarkets.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Alexander.  He is survived by his two brothers and sister, John Max Alexander, Jr. of Texas, Charles Alexander of Arizona and Anna Silva of California. He also leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Deana Alexander, five children and their families, Tonia Alexander, Terry and Julie Alexander, Michael Alexander, Angela and Shann Murphy, and John Max, II and Heather Alexander; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Combest Family Funeral Homes with the family receiving friends 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Cowboy Church of the South Plains, 406 CR 7300, ¼ block east of Tahoka Hwy on 114th Street.  There will be a celebration of Joe’s new life with Jesus following the services at his house.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the Melanoma Foundation, or any Hospice organization.
