Joel Toland

Joel Toland, 39, of Lubbock suddenly passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in Lubbock.

Joel was born on March 28, 1983 in Lubbock, Texas to David Butler Toland and Jonna D’Ann Gibson Toland.  Joel was raised in Lubbock, where he served in the Boy Scouts.  He graduated from Monterey High School in 2001, where he was involved in academic decathlon, choir and played drums in the band.  He attended Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Austin and worked in several restaurants in Austin.  He moved back to Lubbock, where he worked in several restaurants, including the Texas Tech Club, and Alamo Drafthouse.  He enjoyed watching movies, especially the Marvel movies, watched soccer, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.  He loved watching Texas Tech football and basketball.  He had a great sense of humor, was witty, and very kind to others and his family.  He had helped his mother take care of his grandmother, Peggy, while she was alive.  He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially comfort food.  He was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock.

Joel is survived by his mother, D’Ann Toland of Lubbock, father, David B. Toland of Treasure Island, Florida, cousins, Blayne and Anderson Gibson, and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Ellie Wilson, grandparents, Dick and Peggy Gibson, and uncle, Richey Gibson.

Celebration of life memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2022 at Combest Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway, in Lubbock.  Private family inurnment of cremated remains will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.  Please visit www.combestfamilyfuneralhome.com for more obituary information, video tribute, and service details.
