John Perkins, 80, of Ransom Canyon, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, November 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving and faithful wife. John was born on March 5, 1943, in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, to the late William Oscar Perkins and Hattie L. (Wood) Perkins.
John attended Lubbock High School, graduating with the senior class of 1961. He also attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
He met Rosemary Sue Brehm, the love of his life, and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1966, in Amarillo.
John worked in insurance as a corporate risk manager and worked for AON Insurance Brokers as a Vice President, before retiring in 1998. He was an elder at two different congregations of the Lord’s church. John enjoyed his woodworking and his vegetable garden. When he and Rosemary moved back to Lubbock, they became members of Sunset Church of Christ. He worked in foreign missions through Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) at Sunset Church of Christ. Of particular importance to him was that he built a cabin at Camp Blue Haven in Las Vegas, NM. He was also an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Rosemary; one son, Brian Perkins and his wife Ivy of University Heights, Ohio; one daughter, Heidi Loraine Smith of Lubbock; one sister, Carol Whitson of Bedford; three grandchildren: Austin Smith, Amber Perkins and Paige Smith. John was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Gene Perkins, Phillip Perkins, Kenneth Perkins and William Perkins; three sisters: Elaine Marshall, Loraine Graves and Bettye Faris.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1 PM on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Combest Family Funeral Home’s Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, TX. Private burial was in the Idalou Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made, in John’s memory, to the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI), 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410, CASA of the South Plains, 4601 S. Loop 289, #25, Lubbock, TX 79424 or to Camp Blue Haven, 62 Camp South Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
