John H. Prell

TSgt John H. Prell, retired United States Air Force passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the age of 67. John was born on May 18, 1946 in Mapleton, Iowa and grew up on the farm until 1966 when he graduated from Maple Valley High School.  He then entered the United States Air Force where he was stationed in various states including South Carolina, Utah, Kansas, and Texas and several overseas areas, Recife, Brazil; Da Nang, Vietnam; Osan, Korea; Sembach, Germany.  After 20 years of service, he retired from the military.  In May 1979, he married Carla Fromm.  They were married for more than 20 years.  John also worked as a rural mail carrier at Dodge City, Kansas, a Corrections Officer with TDCJ in Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas and for Shadow Hills Golf Course.  At the time of his death, he owned and operated Prell's Small Engine Repair Service.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna Prell and five siblings, Nancy, Raymond, Paul, Fred and Mary.  

He is survived by his children Stacia (Willy) Sterling and Bo (Whitney) Prell, both of Lubbock; ex-wife, Carla Prell, of Smyer; and brothers, Larry and Gary Prell of Iowa. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Garry, Brailey, and Emma.

No memorial services are scheduled in Lubbock, however interment will be in the Center Cemetery at Castana, Iowa along side of his grandfather, John Joseph Prell.
