Josephine Gutierrez, 94, died Tuesday, July 31, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Plainview, Texas, March 4, 1926, and spent most of her life in Roswell and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her parents were Joe G. Gutierrez, Sr. and Victoriana Sanchez Gutierrez of Roswell.
She is a graduate of Roswell High School and University of New Mexico. She was an avid scholar of New Mexico history and genealogy. She was most proud of her heritage and counts among her ancestors founders of Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and El Paso.
She is predeceased by her father in 1962, her mother in 1981, brother, Joe, Jr. in 2015, sister, Virginia in 2016, and an infant brother in 1932.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Musiak (Thomas A.) of Lubbock, Texas; brother, Thomas Gutierrez (Jenna) of Greer, South Carolina; nieces, Susan Gutierrez George (Rick) of Alanta, Georgia; Diane Gutierrez of Greenville, South Carolina, and son James Gutierrez; Cynthia Gutierrez Dannels (David) of Lexington, South Carolina and children Lauren and William.
Following a Mass of the Resurrection at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2808 North Kentucky Street in Roswell on September 17, 2024, at 10:00 am MST. She will be inurned in the church columbarium.
