Joyce Fowler, 77, of Lubbock, went to be with her beloved husband, Jay, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. Joyce was born on November 23, 1944, in Littlefield (Lamb County), Texas to the late William Barney Green and Faye Exlina (Smothermon) Green.
She met Jay Fowler, the love of her life, and they were married on September 3, 1966, in Littlefield, Texas. Jay preceded her in death on July 14, 2017.
Joyce attended West Texas State University, graduating in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education. She also attended Texas Tech University from 1972 to 1973, studying theater.
She started her teaching career at Hutchison Junior High School in 1967. She took off a year to have and raise her son, Brad, in 1970. When she returned to teaching in 1971, she taught speech and drama at Evans Junior High School until 2003. It used to drive her family crazy that she could not go out without being approached by previous students. They recounted time and time again how Mrs. Fowler was their all-time favorite teacher and her class was the best. After retiring from education, she began a new successful career in Lubbock as an Edward Jones BOA. She was a favorite on-call BOA among several branches until her passing. Joyce and Jay also owned and operated Country Studio Jewelry Store at KK's Craft Mall and sold their jewelry at Post's Old Mill Trade Days.
She and Jay loved camping together. As their family grew, so did their love of spending time away from the city, in the mountains of New Mexico. They progressed from tent camping, to pop-up trailer, to motorhome, and finally to owning their own property in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, which was their favorite place. They also loved riding motorcycles together, and they were members of the Red Raider Road Rider Club. She loved to watch TV, keep up with family and friends on Facebook, and spoil her grandchildren. She was a member of Monterey Church of Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include one son, Brad Fowler and his wife Jacque of Lubbock; one daughter, Becky Joyce Henry and her husband Brian of Hurst; one sister, Jody Davis of Littlefield; and four grandchildren, Austin James Fowler, Christian James Fowler, Lily Jaye Henry and Collin Edward Henry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, Donald, Doyle and Dale Green, and one sister, Wilma Sutton.
Joyce's life will be celebrated at a come and go memorial visitation from 2 PM to 4 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Monterey Church of Christ, 6111 82nd St., Lubbock, TX 79424. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
