Joyce Evelyn Joyner, 91, of Lubbock, was gently lifted into heaven on Friday evening, December 7, 2024, to be with her Lord and Savior. Joyce was born on May 6, 1933, to the late Ira Ray and Ruby (Smith) Ray.
She attended Brownwood High School, graduating with the senior class of 1950. She went on to further her education by attending Howard Payne University, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a minor in English and Education.
She met B. G. Joyner, Jr., the love of her life, and they were married on July 16, 1953, in Brownwood, Texas. Mr. Joyner preceded her in death on October 1, 1971.
Joyce taught for 29 years in Alamogordo, NM, Los Lunas, NM, Belen, NM and Albuquerque, NM. She worked various jobs for 26 years after she retired from teaching and finally retired in 2018. Joyce was a former resident of Albuquerque, before moving to Lubbock in 2018.
Joyce loved sports, especially billiards, tennis and bowling. She also like to work in the garden and grow flowers. She also liked to play cards, dominos, and to cook. Joyce was a member of the Montgomery Church of Christ in Albuquerque, before moving to Lubbock in 2018, and has been a member of Monterey Church of Christ for the last 6 years.
Those left behind to honor and cherish her memory include her two sons: David Joyner and wife Janet of Lubbock, and Marc Joyner and his wife Candie of Alamogordo, New Mexico; one daughter, Cindy Kiss and husband Joel of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Annette Cleveland and husband David of Stephenville, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at a later time. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
