Juan A. Alonzo, 79, passed away December 23, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. He was born June 27, 1945, to Apolinar and Junita (Adams) Alonzo, In Lubbock, TX.
Juan was the heart and soul of his family, a man whose larger-than-life spirit and boundless love brought joy to everyone around him. His passion for life was contagious, inspiring those who knew him to cherish every moment. After bravely battling health challenges, Juan had recently gone into remission, a testament to his unwavering resilience and strength.
He was a devoted father, husband, brother, and friend who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. Whether in construction or as a handyman in his later years, Juan’s work ethic and determination shone through. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Juan’s eyes lit up at the sight of a wrestling match or a Dallas Cowboys game, and he never hesitated to share his opinions, including his well-known frustration with the long waiting times at doctors' visits.
Those left to carry on his memory are his daughter, Jessica Carrillo and husband, Luis; and son, Sammy Vasquez. Juan was a father figure to two nieces, Sandra Perez and Sarah Olivarez, both of Lubbock; sisters, Cecilia Luna, Molly Alonzo of Lubbock, and Beatrice Orta of Dallas; and grandchildren, Christopher and wife, Andrea Carrillo, Mark and Nick Carrillo, Samual, Santana, Silas, and Lexi Vasquez, and Alyssa and Thomas Olivarez, J.J. Vasquez, Michael Vasquez; as well as great-grandchildren Journey and John Carrillo.
He is now reunited with the love of his life, Hilda Benavidez Alonzo, showering her with the many kisses they missed in their time apart. Juan was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda; his parents, Apolinar and Juanita Alonzo; sisters, Mary Alonzo and Guadalupe Camacho; and brothers, Frank, Joe, Apolinar Jr., and Jessie Alonzo.
The family, of Juan Alonzo, will honor and celebrate his life with a memorial service at 2:00PM, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway St Lubbock.
