Judith Elaine Prude Barnes passed away on April 13, 2025 peacefully, in the presence of her family she so deeply loved..
Judie was born in Colorado City, Texas and lived most her life in Lubbock. She carried a deep connection and heritage within the Texas ranching community, some of which is preserved at the Ranching Heritage Center. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She lived for a time in Little Rock, Arkansas where she met her husband, Charlie. She loved the Ozark Mountains. She lived for 11 years in South Texas where she loved the beach and fishing with her family. She loved butterflies, irises, and anyone who petted a dog’s head.
She dedicated her life to serving God and was a long-time active member of Disciples of Christ. She was a leader and example of excellence in all things she participated in, most especially training, showing, and trialing her Australian Shepherds. She loved and supported the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. She also enjoyed her work as a Social Security Court stenographer here in Lubbock, TX.
Judie leaves behind her devoted husband, Charles Loyd Barnes Jr., and her cherished children, Kelli Laine Kavanagh (Ian McDowell Kavanagh) and Jason William Barnes Hamzy (Lee Christine Hamzy). Their loving family includes grandchildren Jennifer LeighAnn Collette, Brendan Finnian, Sylvie Kavanagh, Claire Evangelaine Kylan Kavanagh, Hannah Rose Elaine Hamzy, Joseph Forest Lennon Hamzy, and Faith Ilana Marie Hamzy, as well as great-grandchild Amelia Rivers Collette. She is also survived by her treasured Australian Shepherds, Rose and Cannon. Judie was preceded in death by her brother, John William Prude Jr., and her parents, Francis Elaine Prude and John William Prude.
Judie's warmth and compassion touched the lives of many, and her presence will be deeply missed.
A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on April 28, 2025, at First Christian Church on Broadway at 11 a.m.
May her spirit find peace among the flowers, butterflies, and gentle breezes she so dearly loved.
