Juliana DeLeon

Juliana “Julia” DeLeon, of Lubbock, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born February 16, 1929, in Dilley, Texas to Pablo and Josefina (Macias) Hernandez. Julia worked for Texas Instruments and later for Texas Tech University before retiring in 1989. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for more than 55 years where she enjoyed prayer meetings, being a Guadalupana, and serving in the Alters Society, Society of Sacred Heart and Catholic Daughters of America. When not serving in the church, Julia cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to make tamales. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Frances Prieto of Lubbock, Joe DeLeon and wife Edelmira of Lubbock, Mary Guitron of Navasota, Janie Gonzales of San Antonio, Cruz DeLeon of Lubbock, Rachel DeLeon of Lubbock, George DeLeon and wife Susan of Corpus Christi, Lupe Orta and husband Manuel of Montgomery, Josie Orta and husband George of Lubbock, Janice DeLeon of Lubbock and James DeLeon of Lubbock. Julia is also survived by two sisters: Mary Garza of Nyssa, Oregon and Beatrice Martinez and husband Bart, Sr. of Windsor, Colorado; 44 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. 

Julia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dionicio DeLeon in 1980; son, Jesse DeLeon; siblings, Pablo Hernandez, Marcelino Hernandez, Mike Hernandez, Eufemia Melendez and Janie Yniguez; granddaughters, Janice DeLeon and Anna Marie Mendez; and great-grandson, Rudy Romo. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2024, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, with rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with final rites and interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes. Father Raymundo Manriquez, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant. 

Pallbearers will be Josh DeLeon, George Orta, Julian Prieto, Isaiah Garcia, Danny Covarrubio, Israel Guitron, James DeLeon and J. J. Lucero.
