Karen Gail Chism

Karen Gail Chism, 60, of Hondo, New Mexico passed peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2014. She was born October 22, 1953 to Carole Hall and Earl Chism. Karen joined the U.S. Army in 1978 and was honorably discharged in 1981.  She worked as a teacher for many years and in August of 2012 moved to Hondo where she was a school counselor.  Karen was most known as being a perfectionist.  She placed high value on doing things correctly and achieving the best results.  She was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking and participating in marathons and triathlons.

Karen's surviving loved ones are her lifelong partner, Judy Lunt; mother, Carole Hall; father and step-mother, Earl and Alyce Anne Chism; brother, Mike Chism and wife Jeanie and their family; sister, Sarah Teague and husband John and their family; as well as many nieces and nephews, all of Lubbock.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014 at First Christian Church, 1211 Hull Road, in Ruidoso, N.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karen's name can be sent to OFCU, Hondo Valley Schools, 211 Hwy 70, Ruidoso, NM 88345.
