Kathryn Earnest, 89, of Lubbock died on Saturday, August 16, 2014. Kathryn was born on October 10, 1924 in Amarillo, Texas to C.T. and Louise Oliver. Her namesake was her grandmother Katrina Von Griesenbeck of Cologne, Germany, later of Lockhart, Texas.
Kathryn graduated from Lubbock High School in 1942. After high school she began her career as a business woman with the Lamesa Chamber of Commerce where she met J.R. Earnest, whom she married on December 10, 1948 in Lamesa; he preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lamesa, and attended the First Baptist Church of Lubbock during her later years. She was an active participant in art seminars at the Museum of Texas Tech University and was a member of the Lubbock Women's Club. She enjoyed attending Lubbock Symphony Orchestra events.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marian Earnest of Lubbock and Anita Earnest of Austin, and Anita's husband Dana Lockler; one granddaughter, three great grandchildren and one great- great grandson; one sister, several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; and one daughter, Carol Earnest Lindly.
The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Art Lecture Series held at the Museum of Texas Tech University, 3301 4th St, Lubbock, Texas 79409.
