Kay Lyn Carpenter

Kay Lyn (Clanahan) Carpenter, 77, passed away February 23, 2024, in Lubbock, TX. She was born October 9, 1946, to James R. and Cas Anis (Fowler) Clanahan in Lubbock, TX. She graduated from Monterey High School, class of 1964, and continued her education at Texas Tech University, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree and graduating in 1969. While attending Texas Tech, Kay was a member of the TTU marching band, playing the clarinet. 

Kay worked as an auditor for the Texas Employment Commission for 25 years. In her retirement, she became a master gardener, loving to plant flowers. Kay was a loving and devoted grandmother; she loved baking with Sydni, taking trips with Case and Ryland to the Texas Tech Museum and the Ranching heritage Center, attending athletic events for Case and Sydni. In her spare time, she enjoyed arts and crafts and painting with her grandchildren. Kay was a dog and cat mom and had a life-long passion for reading books. 

Kay was preceded in death by her father and mother, James and Anis, and a stepfather, Clyde Mace. Those remaining to cherish her many memories are her son, Deke Carpenter, a daughter-in-law, Kelli Carpenter, grandchildren Case, Sydni, and Ryland Carpenter, and her sisters, Patricia Ann Jones, Judith Arredondo, and Toni Woody.  

The Family, of Kay Lyn Carpenter, will honor and celebrate her life with a memorial service at 10:00AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 1101 Slide Rd, Lubbock, TX 79416.
