Kimberly Walker

Kimberly Nanetta (Paynes) Walker was born to the union of Eugene and Odessa Paynes on June 26, 1962, in O’Donnell, Texas.  She passed away at her residence on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Houston, Texas.

The eldest of two children, Kimberly (Kim) was reared in Tahoka, Texas, where she attended public schools and graduated from Tahoka High School in 1981.  Kim grew up in the church and was a member of Loving Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Elder James Scott. 

After graduation, Kim moved to Austin, Texas, and became employed in the food service industry at the University of Texas at Austin.  She worked there for a few years until she suffered an injury to her leg.  After residing in Austin for several years, Kim relocated to Houston. 

Kim never met a stranger and always introduced herself to others as “Lady K.”  Once you were informed her name was “Lady K,” she would quickly correct you if you called her Kim.  She loved to cook and was always cooking for her friends.  She enjoyed watching tv, playing dominoes and talking on the phone.  Kim loved and treasured her family and friends and was loved so much in return.  We will truly miss her energy, but she will forever remain in our hearts.

Her parents, Eugene and Odessa Paynes, preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister, Yuvette Rabb (Danny) of Haslet, TX; niece, N’Kia Wynne of Spokane, WA; nephew, Cameron Hurd of Sugar Land, TX; great-nieces, Kamari Shanta’ and Khree De’Shae of Spokane, WA, great-nephew, Kason Szavion of Spokane, WA; aunt, Amy Williams of Dallas, TX; and a host of other cousins and family members, friends and countless others whose lives she touched.   

A memorial celebration will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Grace Community Church in Tahoka with inurnment to follow at Nevels Memorial Cemetery.
