Lubbock

Larry Kenneth Peck- Born July 1940 in Houston TX- Went to be with his Heavenly Father September 29th, 2014 surrounded by his family in Lubbock TX.

He was born the Son of a proud and God fearing South Texas rice farming couple.  Larry loved the Lord from a young age.  Larry was a good student and graduated near the top of his high school class.  He later graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Economics.  After a brief stint in the Air Force he began his career as a federal contracting officer.  Throughout his working career Larry worked for the DOD; DOT; FAA and finally he retired from the BLM.  At the DOT in Larry's early career he was tasked as a contracting officer with the formation of the EMS (emergency medical services) setting national standards still in use today for paramedic programs.  Next in the early 70's Larry oversaw the federal contracting aspect of the federal government's role in the development of national standards for seat belt and car crash worthiness & air bags in passenger vehicles.  Larry helped organize the DOT's initial crash test safety standard competitions and as a result of his involvement with passenger vehicle safety Larry custom installed seat belts in his personal vehicles long before they were federally mandated to ensure the safety of his family.

Larry met and later married the love of his life Darlene Peck in 1980 and they raised their family of three children together in Colorado Springs.  Larry had visited Colorado as a youth with his Family on vacations and deer hunting trips with his Dad and Uncle and promised himself that he would one day live there.

Later in his career Larry worked for the FAA and oversaw the government contracting aspect of the privatization and transition of National Airport (now named Ronald Reagan National Airport) and Dulles Airport.  Larry was a wordsmith and technical writer who loved the use of grammar and language to impart a specific design and goal.  He was often brought in to troubleshoot failing government contracts.  His creativity and meticulous attention to detail were invaluable assets to his bosses in DC.

Larry was a loving and devoted Father and Husband.   Larry loved his kids with all his heart.  Larry was devastated by the premature death of his Daughter Cimone "Rabbit" Neill.  He was also preceded in death by his parents Anne and Ken Peck.  He is survived by his loving and devoted Wife Darlene Peck his Sister Beverly Peters and her Husband AJ of Canyon TX, Son Jeff Peck and Daughter in law Amy Peck of Lubbock TX, Daughter Carol Antoun and Husband Adel Antoun of South Riding VA, Son in law Patrick Neill of Colorado Springs, Granddaughters Amy & Ashley Antoun, Granddaughter Shannon Landry and Husband Justin & Grandsons Riley Peck, Dawson Peck & Luke Peck.  Larry took his Son’s best friend in life Alan Corliss under his wing and was privileged to fulfill the roll as a surrogate Father to Alan.  Larry loved Alan and was proud of the man, father and husband he became.

Larry chose to move to Lubbock to be near his Grandsons when he retired.  He will be missed by all whom he deemed his friend and to those who knew & loved him.

ALS (Lou Gerhig's Disease) is a cruel and insufferable end to an otherwise productive and dignified life.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the ALS foundation for research.  Psalm 103:17-18 "But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments."

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday October 4th at the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.
