Laura (Walker) Hendrix, 65, of Shallowater, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, January 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Laura was born on January 15, 1959, in Lubbock, to Tevis Walker and the late Peggy (Exum) Walker.
She attended Shallowater High School and graduated with the senior class of 1977. Following graduation, she attended Lubbock Christian College (now Lubbock Christian University) and graduated in 1981 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance.
Laura met Neal Hendrix, the love of her life, and they were united in marriage on December 11, 1982, in Lubbock. From this blessed union, they brought four lovely children into this world.
Laura taught music and piano for many years, and she played the piano for residents at local nursing and retirement homes. She home-schooled all four of her children, as she cared deeply about their education. She was very family oriented, believed strongly in her faith and loved her church. She loved children and she started Boy Scout Troop 101, named after the 101st Airborne Division. Camping, pitching a tent and campfire cooking were some favorite activities of hers.
Laura was an avid gardener, growing wildflowers and loved growing sunflowers. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV show, Monk. Her animals were dear and precious to her, and they were considered family to her. She played basketball and loved to watch Little League baseball.
Laura and her husband Neal owned and operated 4 Corners Mart on West 19th in Lubbock from 1999 to 2021, as well as 4 Corners Mart in Shallowater from 2003 to 2021, before retiring. She cared for her father, who is still with us today, and lives in Shallowater. She was a long-time member of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her husband, Neal; her beautiful children: Joshua Hendrix and wife Rachael of Shallowater, Sarah Stickney and her husband Byron of Lubbock, Jacob Hendrix and wife Audrey of Shallowater, and Caleb Hendrix and wife Rachel of Lubbock; her father, Tevis Walker of Shallowater; eight grandchildren who were the highlight of her life: Jackson Hendrix, Ellianne Stickney, Reagan Hendrix, Calder Stickney, Jade Hendrix, Lincoln Hendrix, Bryce Hendrix and Ivy Stickney. She was preceded in death by her mother; paternal grandparents, Fred and Annie Walker; maternal grandparents, John Exum and Marguerite Graham.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ, 1701 Quaker Avenue, in Lubbock.
