Leah Love

January 15, 1949 — November 9, 2021

Leah Dodson Love went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2021, at the age of 72, in the presence of her loving family. She was a long-time resident of Hobbs, New Mexico, and had lived in Lubbock, Texas, since 2008.
She was born on January 15, 1949, in Sweetwater, Texas; the second of five children to Dearl C. Dodson and Mona Helen Pointer Dodson. She married her sweetheart from Hobbs, Robert Lewis Love, on June 7, 1969, and was blessed with 51 years of marriage.

Leah was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Love, her father Dearl C. Dodson, mother Mona Helen Pointer Dodson, and sister Jackie Dodson Hunton.

She is survived by her four siblings: brother Jimmy Dodson and wife Jacquee', sister Terry Ann Dodson, sister Treva Dodson West and husband Mike; two children: daughter Amber Love Layton and husband Greg, and son Damon Edward Love and wife Anne Rugh; and two grandchildren: Madeline and Nathan Layton.

Leah's professional life was defined by being an educator. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1971, after which she committed herself to passionately equipping young people for success in life. Leah has always been an ardent supporter of education, no matter your field of endeavor. It was that strong desire to further one's education that motivated her to return to school later in her career, where she earned a Master of Science in Education from the College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Leah loved her family and friends dearly, and often spoke fondly of her memories involving getaways with them to the Dodson Mountain cabin in Cloudcroft, NM, or a variety of other destinations across our beautiful country. She recalled those times as being filled with togetherness, love, and most importantly infectious laughter! She was a friend to many and relished the opportunity to reach out and establish relationships with others that simply needed a friend. She also had a heart for animals, particularly those needing rescue from a variety of difficult situations. Over the years, the Love family has rescued and loved a number of different animals, and Mrs. Love has done some work in hospitals and homes with her dog as a therapy animal.

In lieu of flowers and because of Leah's passion for animals, the family asks that you consider making donations to the Morris Safe House of Lubbock which strives to help in the prevention of cruelty to all animals.

A memorial Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church, 9507 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, Texas, 79423.
