Lela Mae Spencer

Lela Mae (Gilbert) Spencer, 85, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 15, 2023.  She was born on May 26, 1937, in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, to the late Regan Gilbert and Myrtie Mae (Neves) Gilbert.

Lela attended and graduated from Knott High School and then attended Texas Tech University.

Lela met James Tolbert Spencer, and they were united in marriage on October 10, 1958, in Lubbock, Texas.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed painting with watercolors.  She was a member of the West Texas Watercolor Society and First Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her husband; one son, Robert Spencer of Harker Heights, Texas; one daughter, Leslie Linker of Slaton, Texas; two sisters, Jackie Scott of Atlanta, Texas and Patricia Hivlie of Chicago, Illinois, and three grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be conducted by the family later.  Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
