Leovaldo “Leo” Medrano, 81, of Slaton, passed away on Friday morning, July 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Leo was born on October 9, 1941, in Lott, Falls County, Texas to the late Adrian Medrano and Simona (Chapa) Medrano.
Leo was a farmer all his life, farming in Lubbock and Garza counties and after he retired from farming, he spent most of his time helping with his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton, and he loved to fish when he had time. He enjoyed helping people whether it was day or night. He was always friendly with everybody, and he assisted anybody who needed help. He spent his spare time working around the house. He was a member of the men’s group at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are two brothers, Johnny Medrano of Southland and Santos San Juan Medrano of Lorenzo; one son, Leovaldo Valdez of Slaton; and a host of family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jimmy Medrano and two sisters, Francis Banda and Marina Medrano.
A time of reflection and visitation for Leo will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Combest Memorial Chapel of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM. Mass will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton, 705 South 4th Street, Slaton, Texas 79364. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
