Loy Doggett, 87, of Lubbock went to be with the love of her life, Bennie Doggett, on Monday, March 3, 2025. She was born August 5, 1937, in Fieldton, Texas, a little town outside the Olton community to L. R. “Snooks” and Mildred (Elliott) Goyne. Loy graduated from Olton High School and went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University before obtaining her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. At a young age, Bennie Doggett caught her eye and the two married on February 3, 1956. In 1971 they made their home in Lubbock where Loy taught special education at Lubbock Cooper ISD for more than 40 years, retiring in 2018 to care for her husband. After his passing, she returned to teaching but taught with an invigorating purpose and profound ministry. Loy has spent the last several years at Condra Charter School. There she became not only a teacher, but she also became a loving “grandmother” to her students, a counselor to her co-workers, and a friend to all she came in contact with.
Loy always had a project she was working on. From decorating a home, using her excellent seamstress skills, and even painting various things, she always showed great creative talent. Loy took great pride in her yard and enjoyed gardening. She will be best remembered for the way she loved her family. That love could be seen in many ways including making her famous venison or beef jerky for her son-in-law, Nathan or the way she seemed to make things easier, providing peace and comfort when giving advice.
In 2001, life changed when her granddaughter was born, Kassidy King. Her love for Kassidy was unmatched by anything else. Loy was a constant cheerleader in all Kassidy’s activities, seldom missing a school event, singing engagement, or an opportunity to spend quality time with her.
Those left cherish her memory are her children, Rickie Doggett, Techa Doggett, and Dana King and husband Nathan, all of Lubbock; her beloved granddaughter, Kassidy King of Dallas; sister, Iva Huneycutt and husband Wendell of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; and brother-in-law, Allen Doggett and wife Billie Kay of Lubbock.
Loy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bennie in 2018; daughter, Jana Doggett; and siblings, Billie Sue Almanza and Thomas Goyne.
