Lucia M. Rios

October 1, 1946 — November 23, 2024

Lubbock

Lucia Rios, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, departed this world on November 23, 2024. Born on October 1, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Manuel Montalvo and Eloisa Rendon, Lucia dedicated her life to her family and her community.

Lucia's journey in education completed its chapter with a GED after finishing the eighth grade, reflecting her determination and commitment to personal growth. For 45 years, she brought joy and deliciousness to countless patrons as a baker at Furr's Cafeteria, where her talents shone brightly.

Lucia married her loving husband, Gilbert Rios, whose companionship added warmth and joy to her later years. As a devoted Christian, her faith guided her life and influenced all she did.

Lucia's greatest pride was her family. She is survived by three sons, Elias Villa (Virgie) of Amarillo, TX; Noah Villa (Juanita) of Lubbock, TX; and Jimmy Villa of Lubbock, TX. She also leaves behind two cherished daughters, Eloise Landrum (Gerald) of Lincolnton, Georgia, Sandra Mendez (Ricky), along with 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Alicia Prieto (Mario); Bertha Anderson (Ronnie); Chris Lunblade (Eric); Raquel Arismendez (Jay); Angela Montalvo (Rudy); and her brother, Robert Montalvo. Lucia's legacy of love extends to a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, including two special in-laws, Isabel Espinoza, a former daughter-in-law, and David Hernandez, a former son-in-law.

A woman of many passions, Lucia found joy in crocheting, attending Bible study, and cheering for the San Francisco 49ers. Her love for watermelon, chicken, and Mexican cuisine was only rivaled by her fondness for her family, which brought her endless comfort and joy.

Lucia is preceded in death by five brothers: Arturo Licona, Victor Montalvo, Rudy Montalvo, Amado Montalvo, and Hector Montalvo, as well as her dear sister, Emma Licona-Gonzales. She holds in her heart the memories of two granddaughters, Felicia Villa and Abigail Villa, who left this world too soon.

Though Lucia is no longer with us, her spirit endures in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her gentle nature, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will be carried forward by those she leaves behind, reminding us all of the beautiful life she lived. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
