Luis Castorena López, age 83, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children, on September 6, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on June 21, 1941, in San Angelo, Texas, to Santiago and Asencion (Castorena) Lopez.

In 1977, Luis moved his family from San Angelo to Lubbock to begin a career as a carpet installer with Yates Flooring. During his time in the flooring industry, Luis pursued further education, earning his General Education Diploma and a certification in Heating, Air Conditioning, and Ventilation at the age of 60, graduating in 2001. Luis was known for his love of maintaining his lawn and enjoying time with family. 

Luis was deeply involved in his faith community. He served as a deacon at Sunset Church of Christ for many years before his family became members of Trinity Church, where he joined the staff and continued his service. His presence and dedication will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Asencion Lopez; his daughters, Veronica Gomez and Marcelina Gonzales; his brothers, Domingo Lopez, Seferino Lopez, Santiago Lopez, and his sister, Oralia Dienda.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lopez, and his children: Elizabeth Garcia, Mary Louise Lopez, Hope Lopez, Luis Lopez, and Crystal Lopez. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Johnny Vidal, Bobby Ramos, Marco Hernandez, Dylon Hernandez, Isaiah Gonzalez, Mackenzie Gonzalez, Alissa Vargas, Kaelan Vargas, Victor Vargas, and Caden Lopez; and his great-grandchildren: Jasmine Vidal, Nicole Vidal, Johnny Jr. Vidal, Tessa Hernandez, Mariana Hernandez, Violet Gonzalez, River Carrillo, Rain Carrillo, Elias Boy, Emery Boy, Adalee Contreras, and Azalea Contreras. Luis is also survived by his sister, Irma Hurtado.

 A private family gathering to honor and celebrate Luis' life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, officiated by Shawn Gary.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful nurses at Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Luis Lopez and his daughter Marcelina Lopez-Gonzales, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Lubbock (rmhcsouthwest.com) or Houston (rmhchouston.org).
