Lynn and Debra met on a blind date, were engaged 2 weeks later and married on August 2, 1975. They spent a lifetime committed to each other and the family that would come from this union. They took their marriage vows seriously and completed every single one of them. Every day was a day of richness, but sometimes the money flowed and sometimes there were concerns for their next meal. Good days were the best, but even on the bad days there was a bond between them that was always felt and could not be broken. When sickness came, they made sure every need was met for the other. Fortunately, most days were healthy for them both, but one day Debra started noticing things were not quite right for Lynn. Their children brought this same observation to her attention. Lynn fought a very long, hard battle with Pick's Dementia, eventually requiring a move to an assisted living facility followed by the COVID shutdown, when they didn't see each other for 7 months. They fulfilled their final vow, till death do us part when Lynn passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the age of 70.
Lynn was a West Texas gentleman, who fiercely protected his wife and family. He worked hard to provide for them and was always happy to help anyone who asked. He opened doors for women, carried heavy things for them, and always stepped back to let them go first. His wife always referred to him as the nicest boy she had ever met, which is a grand legacy and testament to his son and grandsons. His granddaughter referred to him as her tickle buddy, and his daughter was always his angel.
Lynn was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on October 24, 1951, but he got to Texas as fast as he could, arriving in Midland when he was 3 months old. He grew up there, and after several moves early in their marriage, they always thought of Lubbock as home. They settled there in 1982 and have remained there the rest of their lives.
Lynn is survived by his wife Debra, of 46 years; one son, Matthew Castle (Monya); one daughter, Melissa Dabbs (Justin); five grandchildren, Kyle, Gavin and Evan Castle, and Paige and Jack Dabbs.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, March 4, 2022, in the Wesley Chapel at Lakeridge United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Castle, Kyle Castle, Evan Castle, Gavin Castle, Justin Dabbs, Frank Smith, Clayton Smith and Nathan Desormeaux.
The family would like to thank the precious staff at Brookdale Monterey, Bridge Hospice, family and dear friends whose love for Christ first enabled them to love and care for Lynn in an extraordinary way. They also provided tender support for the family when our hearts were breaking, as we helplessly watched Lynn suffer and decline. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sabouni.
