Maria Gonzalez was reunited with her Lord on April 6, 2025, after a life filled with love and devotion. Born on August 4, 1943, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Rosa Guellin and Richard Martinez, Sr., Maria's journey was one of warmth, faith, and family.
Her heart found its counterpart in Guadalupe P. Gonzalez, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage for 46 years until his passing in 2011. Their bond was a testament to true love – a partnership that blossomed through life's joys and challenges. Maria dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, home, and church, embodying the spirit of service and devotion.
As a talented homemaker, Maria cherished the art of sewing and crocheting, creating pieces that held sentiment and warmth. Her role as a mother brought her immense joy; she adored spending time with her children and their families, fostering deep connections that will live on in their hearts.
Maria was also a devoted member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Shallowater, where she served as a Guadalupana, offering her time and love to her faith community. Her passion for life extended to her love for bingo and having fun, which brought joy to her and those around her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, and sister, Sylvia Atkins. Maria leaves behind a cherished legacy through her loving sons, Guadalupe and his wife, Beviana; Paul and his wife, Carmen; Martin and his wife, Becky; and David and his wife, Julia. She is also survived by her dear sisters Antonia Cerda, Janie Gomez and her husband, Joe, Alma Olivarez, brothers Ricardo Martinez and his wife, Dominga, and Jesse Rodriguez, along with her adoring grandchildren Veve Padilla, Bernice Padilla, Joanne Padilla, Albert Padilla, Priscilla Gonzalez, Mikal Gonzalez, Alexandria Gonzalez, Raquel Avalos, Nikolas Gonzalez, Adam Gonzalez, Abraham Gonzalez, Amaris Gonzalez, and Ayla Gonzalez and great-grandson, Zain Compton, who will continue to carry her spirit forward.
A visitation honoring Maria's life will be held at The Venue on Broadway, Combest Family Funeral Homes, on Monday, April 14, from 12 PM to 9 PM, with a Rosary at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 15, at 10 AM, followed by burial at The City of Lubbock Cemetery.
Maria's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved her, and her spirit will continue to guide her family and friends as they celebrate the love and light she brought into their lives.
