Maria A. Vega, 87, of Corpus Christi and formerly of Tahoka, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 7, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Maria was born to the late Genovevo and Virginia (Pena) Almendarez on February 25, 1935, in Floresville (Wilson County), Texas.
She met and married Carlos Vega, Jr., the love of her life, on August 17, 1962, in Tahoka.
Maria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to her loving family. She loved working puzzles, coloring, and cooking. She loved playing the lottery, especially the scratch offs, and feeding the seagulls. Raised in the Catholic faith, Maria was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Tahoka.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her husband, Carlos Vega, Jr.; one son, Carlos (Chuck) Vega, III of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Mabel Rosas of Tahoka; one sister, Virginia Vega of New Home; six grandchildren: Martin Lee Rosas, Isaac C. Vega, Elijuah Vega, Breanna Littrell, Isiah Vega and Gabby Littrell; twelve great-grandchildren: Evan Rosas, Derek Rosas, Adalynn Rosas, Nora Lynn Vega, Adrian Vega, Zayda Vega, Miliani Rose Vega, Ethan Garza, Elijah Garza, Emani Vega, Mariela Garza and Azaleena Vega. Preceding Maria in death are her parents; a daughter, Diana Vega in 2018; four sisters, Irene Gonzalez, Dora Castro, Alicia Castro, and Antonia Vega.
A period of visitation for Maria will be from 2 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, the Combest Family Memorial Chapel in Tahoka, with Recitation of the Rosary at 6 PM. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Thursday, April 14, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel in Tahoka. Final rites and interment will follow in the Nevels Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers will be Elijuah Vega, Ronnie Vega, Martin Lee Rosas, Isaac C. Vega, Isiah Vega, and Michael Vega.
