Maria Guadalupe Perez, 91, of Lubbock, left her earthly home and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, December 5, 2022. Maria was born on June 3, 1931, in Elgin, Bastrop County, Texas, to the late Jim Perez and Elisa (Machado) Perez.
Maria was a humble, self-taught person, who grew up picking cotton as a child, being reared and raised in Brownfield. She worked for Furr’s Cafeteria for over 15 years, retiring in 1979. Her family meant the world to her, and she was very family oriented and a people person. She loved her family immensely and they equally loved her back. Maria loved to needle point, knit and especially cooking. The delicious food she cooked, according to her family, was rice and chicken, beans, and her famous homemade tortillas. Maria was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Brownfield.
Family members left to honor and cherish her memory include two sons, Adam Morales and his wife Rebecca of Lubbock, and Jose Morales of Lubbock; one daughter, Mary Lou Martinez of Lubbock; one sister, Angie Longoria of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Tony Morales, one daughter, Teresa Morales and one sister, Teresa Hernandez.
A time of reflection and visitation for Maria will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the Venue on Broadway of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the Venue on Broadway. Pastor Robert Rivera will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will be held in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Morales, Michael Morales, Chris Morales, JoeJoe Morales, Rudy Rivera, and Anthony Hernandez.
