Marilyn Marie Thompson departed this life Monday, November 10, 2014. Born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, she was 63 years of age. Her parents were Hugh and Mary (Laughlin) Bowden. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father in 2002.
On July 20, 1969 Marilyn and Tommy Thompson were united in marriage and enjoyed 45 years of fruitful labor together. They were blessed with three children, Jed Thompson of Slaton, Texas, April Hackney of Northglenn, Colorado and Amy Rombro of Redondo Beach, California. Besides her children and her loving husband, Marilyn is also survived by her
mother, Mary Bowden, her sister, Kathie Warner and 13 cherished grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
As a youngster Marilyn was active in 4-H and was a member of the H-C riding club. She enjoyed participating in their many activities; from cooking to gymkhana she competed in everything. Her involvement in 4-H led to a lifelong interest in cooking, sewing and all kinds of needlework. In the 1970’s she became the needlework superintendent in the Home Economics Department of the Southern New Mexico State Fair and served in that capacity for a number of years. She loved to sing and offered her services as a volunteer assistant to the choral director of Court Junior High School which later became Picacho Jr. High in Las Cruces and helped there for a couple of years. She attended Dona Ana Business College and after graduation was employed as bookkeeper for various local businesses in Las Cruces.
In addition to her community interests Marilyn was always active in her church, singing, teaching or serving wherever needed. Upon moving to Texas in 2006 she and Tommy became members of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Lubbock where they continued their faithful walk.
Of course she loved to cook and their door was always open but her favorite pastime during this period of semi-retirement consisted of any type of needlework. She delighted in sharing her handmade products with others. She especially loved making baby items and many a new-born was clothed or wrapped in her handiwork. (Psalm 116:15)
Marilyn leaves behind many dear friends and loved ones who cherish her memory.
