Martha Parnell Carter

Martha Parnell Carter of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the age of 91.  She was born May 25, 1922 in Lawn, Texas to Sid and Connie Parnell.  Her family moved to Lubbock in 1937.  She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1939 and Texas Tech University in 1943.  She spent six years teaching in Iraan and Seminole High Schools.  While in Seminole, she met and married Ray Boyce Carter.  In March of 1950, the couple moved to Lubbock where they established a water well drilling business.  She was always involved in her three sons activities and was a longtime member of Broadway Church of Christ.  She taught 45 years in the preschool department and was involved in many other activities of the church as well. 

Martha is survived by two sons, Steve Carter and wife Elaine of Mansfield, TX and Bruce Carter of Lubbock; granddaughters, Alyssa and Jeremy Brown of Mansfield, Jessica and Jake Maurer of Arlington, Jennifer Carter of Boston, MA, and Hillary Carter of Ft. Worth; one grandson, Kirby Carter of Lubbock; six great-grandchildren, Noah, Evan, Liam and Ezra Brown, and Hannah and Max Maurer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R. B. on June 30, 1995 after 47 years of marriage; sister, Gladys Ruth Walker in 1998; son, Craig Carter in 1999; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Carter in 2013.

Visitation will begin on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Combest Family Funeral Homes with the family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Broadway Church of Christ Chapel with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
